German BMW recently announced using magnesium alloy inline six cylinders engine. Internal crankshaft adopts Al-alloy, but outside magnesium alloy. This engine is equipped in the new 3 Series BMW 330i car.

    The engine is 3-litre one with power 190kw(258PS), max twisting moment 300N·m. "inline six cylinders engine is the lightest in these series engines" says the company.

    New type engine weigh 161kg, lightened by 7%(10kg) by using magnesium alloy material. The weight of the crank could be controlled to 57%, 24% lighter than using al-alloy and fuel consuming reduced by 16%.
